I'm going to Brooklyn tonight to see my distant cousin Michael's band Hollus play. I'm actually not sure what level of cousin is even correct - our grandparents are cousins, so does that make us 3rd cousins? Cousins twice removed?
Anyways, his grandparents used to own the house across the orchard from our lake house, so we spent our entire childhood summers playing outside together for hours and hours and hours (a few of those hours spent watching X-men, with me wishing there were more girls my age around for me to play with...). Anyways, we haven't seen each other in YEARS - maybe 15 years? And my grandparents saw his parents at a funeral (sad) and found out that Michael's band was playing a show in NYC. Michael and I found each other on facebook (I guess it is good for more than me stalking people's wedding/engagement photos) and I'm so excited to hear him play and get to see him tonight! This is one of the things I will always love about living in New York - everyone eventually comes to you at some point!
Now...what does one wear to a rock show in Brooklyn? I don't think any of my "I only buy clothes that I can also wear to work" clothes translate to that genre.

Jeans, flat boots, t-shirt, and shiny jewelry. (Coming from someone who goes to rock concerts like this often.) Get bottled beer when you arrive to complete the outfit. :-)
